Vaitalif--Bridge by Reine-Haru Vaitalif--Bridge by Reine-Haru
Sorry for all the uploads ^_^;;

At last, shots of my new elven princess costume!

The costume consists of:
-Tunic made of Dupani silk and lined with Italian linen (heavily embroidered)
-Victorian hourglass corset in black faux suede lined with the same Dupani silk as the tunic
-Skirt that I made this morning in 2 hrs. out of cloth scraps from my faerie godmother XD

This is the more warrior look for Vai, but I don't have all the accessories yet (still need bracers, sword, etc.). I'll also be making an elven princess gown this spring :)

I'll be at Dragon*Con 2009 as Vaitalif, so if you see me, be sure to say hi!

Designed, constructed, and modeled by me.
Photos by those near and dear.

Out of all your outfits and costumes I admire this the most! ^^ I really love the design and the lovely way it complements one's body!

I'm glad you like it! I'm planning something slightly similar for this year in creams and white with black accents.

Reminds me very much of Arthur Rackham's painting of Freyja

Thanks! It's quite comfortable aside from the corset, which I love, but I can't breathe in ^_^;

And speaking of corsets, I found out that hoop boning is just about the greatest stuff ever made. It eliminates the need to double bone where you would normally busk.

I got upset with mine..I thought it was all perfect but when I went to insert the boning to close it up, I learned that 4 pieces of boning were the wrong size..I went to order the right size and they were sold out..so now waiting for them from another site...ughhh.

I found it really helpful to get a roll of hoop boning and just cut and tip it myself. I've had the same problem as you before, and cutting it myself has really worked out well.

How do you tip it??

Well, first you have to cut the steel hoop boning (I found pipe cutters work well), then you can buy boning tips for various widths of boning. Then you simply stick the tips on the ends of the boning (so that it doesn't stab you) and squish the tips on with pliers.

Thanks^^ I can't wait til we start on your dwarf costume! Oh and I just remembered today that I have 10 yards of black and red trim that you're welcome to use if you want! I got it for my Norse costume but didn't end up using it.

I have some pouches you can borrow too :3
